Please indulge our curiosity

Hai folx, hope y'all are doing well despite all the chaos in the world & taking some time to hopefully wind down at the end of the year.

Reaching out to y'all out of authorly curiosity today. It's been about 2 months since Kaiju Noir released, and it looks like a fair few folks have played it, so what did you think?

Kaiju Noir was the first game development experience for most of those involved, and we all appreciate feedback, so please share some thoughts (without spoilers of course).

Who was your favourite Kaiju? Did the story go where you expected? Are there directions & themes you'd be interested to see in the next game? I've so many questions I want to ask you all.

And of course with the season being as it is we've got Kaiju Noir on sale till the end of the year, so if you haven't picked it up yet, or think someone else might like it, this is a great time for it.

Stay safe out there, you are not alone 💜

I'm echoing what the other comments said, the atmosphere and characters were really good but the final act felt a bit strange and... inorganic? Almost? It felt like the story narrowed a bit when we got to the heist and so it was hard to be surprised by anything since no new elements (except for that one big one).

But I enjoyed it overall and would love to see more of this setting, any story set in an underground kaiju society already has a strong hook. I think there are a lot of unique challenges that can be explored like resource/space management in a world with limited space but larger residents or accessibility compliance in a world where everyone has vastly different abilities... which admittedly sound kinda boring now that I'm typing them out but are definitely a political theme that this setting could explore. I'd love a sequel that leans more into corporate espionage.

The opening and mid section where excellent, the pacing towards the end felt a bit rushed, but the ending was pretty satisfying. Also the gender diverse presentation was really nice! And loved the artwork and character writing.

All in all a pretty good game with a world and characters I would like to explorer more.

Thanks so much for the wonderful feedback!

Definitely looking at doing something longer next time around. We wanted to do something shorter & snappier in this first one, more in line with the pacing of older crime fiction (I've read a lot of Lawrence Block, haha) and wanted to do similar pacing which I think doesn't quite like up with the medium.

Keeping our paws crossed for much bigger next time. Monstrous even.

The concept is interesting but the execution of the story seems rushed and the worlbuilding is barely explored. The characters personalities are well defined and their designs look great thanks to the artwork of Lluis Abadias, but I can't say I grew attached to any of them. I knew this game would have politics involved in the story but I just wasn't expect to have so much of it pushed into it and rather than make me feel it contribuited to plot it distracted me to setting I was being presented. In the end I can see what this game was trying to achieve but the end result didn't do it for me and I just don't know what to expect of a sequel if it's ever produced.

I appreciate the honest feedback. The political elements are a big part of the story and they definitely aren't going to strike a match with everyone that plays. But then few games do.

Thank you for giving something different a try though :)

I loved it!!! Great art, art story, perfect atmosphere.

Thank you so much!
